Brockwell has been ostensibly tricky, as both sides believe that they're 'for the people'. But I agree with your succinct take.
Realistically, if you're not someone lucky enough to live near enough to a park to use it regularly, you probably don't care if it gets trashed, as long as you have a good Festival Day Out.
But if you go to other cities, you start to appreciate how damn lucky we are in London to have so much green space, and how we need to look after it. I understand that money raised by events can help to preserve them - and it's easier in the bigger parks where only a small part is used, but smaller parks get trashed, and I suspect that the councils don't get that good a deal when negotiating with big companies, though this is guessing.
Thanks also for mentioning 'Barbarians at the Gate', which deserves to be read by a new generation - it stands up well (as does the other 80s-ur-Fintext, Liar's Poker) as things haven't really changed that much, just in different clothing.
A particularly entertaining post. Particularly the dog show and fashion who are you wearing? Thankyou.
another absolute belter from The Fence. Upon finishing this read, I stood up and bowed to the screen. v much enjoyed the McCourt vs Hannan tiff too.
